Furthermore, the Sūtra of Great Compassion states: The Buddha addressed Ānanda: "In my teaching, as long as someone's nature is that of a śramaṇa, even if they defile the conduct of a śramaṇa, call themselves a śramaṇa, and possess the semblance of a śramaṇa, and there are those who wear the kāṣāya robe—in this Auspicious Kalpa, beginning with Maitreya and ending with the final Tathāgata Rocana, all such śramaṇas will in sequence enter parinirvāṇa across the realm of nirvāṇa without residue of those thousand buddhas, leaving none behind. Why is this? Because among all such śramaṇas, even those who have uttered the Buddha's name once or generated faith once, the merit they have created will ultimately not be in vain. Ānanda, with buddha-wisdom I measure and know the realm of dharmas; there is nothing I do not measure and know. Ānanda, all white karma receives white retribution, and black karma receives black retribution. If there are living beings with pure minds who say 'Namo Buddhāya', by virtue of these wholesome roots they will definitely draw near to nirvāṇa; how much more so those who encounter a buddha and personally offer him veneration and alms!"
