"Shaving the head and wearing the kāṣāya, / Whether keeping precepts or breaking them, / Devas and humans should provide for them, / Constantly ensuring they lack nothing. / Making offerings to them in this way / Is just like making offerings to me. / If someone, out of reverence for the Dharma, / Takes refuge, shaves their head, / And wears the kāṣāya robe on their body, / I declare that they are my child. / Even if they violate the prohibitive precepts, / They still dwell on the ground of non-retrogression. / If someone beats and strikes them, / It is striking my own body; / If someone scolds and insults them, / It is scolding and insulting me. / Such a person wishes to extinguish / The great bright lamp of the True Dharma; / Fighting together for wealth, / Kṣatriyas likewise give rise to anger."
