As the Shan gongjing jing says: 'The Buddha told Ānanda: "If someone hears from another even a single four-line verse, or transcribes or copies it on bamboo or silk, and for that many kalpas as there are words written, takes that upādhyāya, ācārya, and so forth, carrying them on their shoulders, or carrying them on their backs, or placing them on the crown of their heads, constantly walking while carrying them, and further brings all instruments of music to make offerings to this teacher and acts in this manner, they still cannot fully repay the teacher's kindness. If in future ages they give rise to an irreverent mind toward the teacher and upādhyāya, constantly speaking of their faults, I say that through such delusion they will suffer great torment and will certainly fall into the evil destinies in future ages. Therefore, Ānanda, I instruct you all to constantly practice a mind of reverence and veneration; you will then attain such superior dharmas, namely, the profound dharma of treasuring the Triratna."'
