Furthermore, the Sūtra of the Hundred Avadānas states: 'Formerly, when the Buddha was in the world, in the city of Kapilavastu there was an elder of immeasurable wealth. His wife gave birth to a son who was handsome and extraordinarily wondrous; whoever saw him revered him. As he grew up, he saw the Buddha and attained the fruit of arhat. At that time, the Bhagavat addressed the bhikṣus: "Long ago, ninety-one kalpas in the past, there was Vipaśyin Buddha. After he entered nirvāṇa, there was a king named Bandhumat who collected the relics, built a stūpa of the four treasures, and made offerings to them. Later it fell slightly into decay. A youth entered the stūpa, saw this damaged spot, and with a gentle, joyful countenance gathered and called upon people to plaster and repair the stūpa together; he made a vow and departed. Due to this merit, for ninety-one kalpas he did not fall into the hells, animals, or hungry ghosts, enjoying bliss in the heavens and among humans, and was constantly revered by gods and humans. Down to the present, he has met me, is revered by all people, and has left home to attain the Way." Having heard what the Buddha said, they rejoiced and practiced it.'
