Ninth, mindfulness of the body: this means one with concentrated diligence is mindful of the body: hair, body hair, nails, teeth, skin, flesh, sinews, bones, gall, liver, lungs, heart, spleen, kidneys, large intestine, small intestine, the curved and straight [entrails], the bladder, feces, urine, omentum, stomach contents, spleen fluid, bubbles, urine, tears, saliva, nasal mucus, pus, blood, fat, drool, skull, brain, and so forth. What is this body? It is the earth element, water element, fire element, and wind element; it is entirely made by father and mother. Whence did it come? By whom was it made? When these six sense faculties perish here, where will they be born? Eliminating all turbulent thoughts, one personally attains nirvāṇa. Not departing from mindfulness of the body, one then obtains merit. This is called mindfulness of the body.
