Furthermore, the Dichi lun says: When a bodhisattva makes vows, they are briefly stated as five kinds: first, the vow of arousing the mind; second, the vow of rebirth; third, the vow of sphere; fourth, the vow of equality; fifth, the great vow. When that bodhisattva first arouses the mind of anuttara-bodhi, this is called the vow of arousing the mind. Wishing in future lives, for the sake of sentient beings, to be born in good destinies as appropriate, this is called the vow of rebirth. Wishing to correctly contemplate the immeasurable good roots of all phenomena and to reflect on their spheres, this is called the vow of sphere. Wishing in future lives that all bodhisattvas skillfully practice the matters of gathering [beings], this is called the bodhisattva's vow of equality. The great vow is itself the vow of equality.
