"The zenith refers to śramaṇas, brāhmaṇas, and the like. If one makes offerings to the śramaṇas and brāhmaṇas of the zenith of clothing, food and drink, dwellings, bedding, and medicine when sick and emaciated, can rescue them in times of fear, provides them with food in times of famine, turns away from evil upon hearing it, and prostrates, respects, honors, and praises them, this person can make offerings to the śramaṇas and others of the zenith. These renunciants reciprocate with five things: first, inspiring them to generate faith; second, teaching them to cultivate wisdom; third, teaching them to practice giving; fourth, teaching them to uphold the precepts; fifth, teaching them to become broadly learned. If someone makes offerings to these six directions, this person will increase in wealth and life, and will be able to receive and uphold the upāsaka precepts."
