“Generations of offspring never cease,
all driven by eating and greedy desire.
Feeding the enemy only swells the burial mounds;
the foolish man hurries about accumulating wealth.
Though a prison has chains and shackles,
the wise do not call it secure;
the foolish, seeing the adornments of wife and child,
become deeply attached and cherish that confinement.
The wise declare that desire is the prison,
deep and solid, difficult to escape;
therefore one should cut it off and abandon it;
without intimacy with desire, one can find peace.”
