The Saddharmasmṛtyupasthāna-sūtra also states: "If sentient beings give delicious water to people or cover wells and springs for fear that poisonous snakes might fall into the well and travelers drinking from it would suffer distress, upon the end of life they will be born in the Heaven of the Three Harps and enjoy the pleasures of the five desires. Dying from there, if they attain a human body, they will be cherished and honored by kings. If one sees someone gravely ill, with sound issuing from their throat and little life remaining, and gives them gruel or drink, or gives wealth to ransom their life, upon the end of life they will be born in the Heaven of Deep Waters, joyful like Śakra. Dying from heaven and transmigrating according to their karma, they will not fall into the three miserable destinies; gaining a human body, from birth to birth they will not encounter the suffering of illness and will have no affliction. If a sentient being who upholds moral discipline sees the bhikṣu saṃgha and gives fans so that they may obtain cool relief to read and recite the scriptures and teachings, upon the end of life they will be born in the Heaven of Wind Travelers, with fragrant breezes blowing upon them, incomparably delighted. If a sentient being constructs bridges and boats at river crossings to ferry across people who uphold moral discipline with a wholesome mind, as well as ferrying other people, without doing any evil, upon the end of life they will be born in the Heaven of Garland Bearers and enjoy the pleasures of the five desires; when their life there ends, in the human realm they will become a keeper of the royal treasury."
