Furthermore, the Vibhāṣā-śāstra states: It is heard that once there was a woman possessed by a hungry ghost. Using spells, someone questioned the ghost, saying, 'Why do you trouble this other woman?' The ghost replied, 'This woman is my enemy. For five hundred lifetimes, she has constantly killed me, and for five hundred lifetimes I have also ended her life. If she can abandon her heart of old enmity, I too will be able to abandon it.' At that time, the woman said, 'I have now abandoned my resentful heart.' The ghost observed that although the woman's mouth said she abandoned it, her heart did not let it go; so it immediately ended her life.
