At that time, when the World-Honoured One had finished speaking these verses, the fourteen thousand nāgas all received the three refuges, and among all the afflictions of their past and present karmic retributions, they attained liberation. They had deep faith in the Triratna, their minds never backsliding. Furthermore, eighty hundred million other nāgas also gave rise to minds of refuge and reverence toward the Triratna.
