In the third year of the Taihe era, a wuchen year, under Emperor Fei of the Eastern Jin, the nun Daoxin of the Eastern Monastery in Luoyang, whose secular surname was Yang, when she was a novice (śrāmaṇerī), had recited and mastered the two scriptures, the Lotus and the Vimalakīrti. After receiving the full precepts, she thoroughly investigated the flavour of the principles, becoming a master revered by all scholars of the Dao in that entire region. Lecturing by nuns began with Daoxin.
