五德福田經云。一者發心出家。懷佩道故。二毀其形好應法服故。三委棄身命。遵崇道故。四永割親愛。無適真故。五志求大乘為度人故。

The Sūtra on the Field of Merit of the Five Virtues states: "First, giving rise to the mind to leave the household, because one cherishes the Path; second, ruining one's handsome appearance, because one complies with the Dharma robes; third, casting away body and life, because one honors the Path; fourth, severing love for kin forever, because one holds no personal bias toward truth; fifth, aspiring to seek the Mahāyāna, because one seeks to liberate others."
