1.21

經云即甘蔗王不受胎藏。因日炙開剖。故名日種○大悲經云。姓日者為離諸暗。而作光明故（今詳二經前就本緣後約功德）。

A sūtra states: Because King Sugarcane was not born of a womb, but was warmed and split open by the sun, he was therefore named the Sun Lineage. ○ The Mahākaruṇā Sūtra states: 'The surname Sun is because he produces light to depart from all darkness.' (Examining the two sūtras now: the former refers to the original causal conditions, the latter concerns virtues.)
