僧祇律云。有年八十九十太老七十。臥起須人。俱不聽度○五分律云。一切殘疾惡狀貌毀辱。佛法者皆不得度聖朝有編勅違礙者為師宜慎之。

The Mahāsāṃghika Vinaya says: Those aged eighty or ninety who are too old, or seventy who need someone to help them lie down and rise, are all not permitted to be ordained. ○ The Mahīśāsaka Vinaya says: All those who have physical disabilities or repulsive appearances that bring disgrace upon the Buddhadharma may not be ordained. In the present sacred dynasty, there are compiled imperial edicts concerning impediments; those acting as teachers should be prudent about them.
