1.326

毘尼母云。戒有二種。一出世間戒。二世間戒。此世間戒。能為出世戒作因故。云最勝。又云一依身口戒。二依心戒因依身口戒得依心戒故。

The Vinayamātṛkā states: "There are two kinds of precepts: first, supramundane precepts; second, mundane precepts. Because these mundane precepts can serve as the cause for supramundane precepts, they are called most supreme." It also states: "First, precepts based on body and speech; second, precepts based on the mind. Because relying on the precepts based on body and speech, one attains the precepts based on the mind."
