優婆塞戒經云。一切善不善。法心為根本因根本故。說諸比丘犯有二種。一身犯二口犯故。但制七支也（七支者。謂三身業四口業也）○彌勒問經論云。造作名業○對法論云。身口七支業即自體名業意三業。但名相應心。

The Upāsakaśīla-sūtra states: 'For all wholesome and unwholesome dharmas, the mind is the root. Because of this root, it is taught that bhikṣus have two kinds of offenses: bodily offenses and vocal offenses; therefore, only the seven branches are established' (the seven branches are: three bodily karmas and four vocal karmas). The Commentary on the Maitreyaparipṛcchā-sūtra states: 'Activity is called karma.' The Abhidharmasamuccaya states: 'The seven branches of bodily and vocal karma are karma in their own nature; the three karmas of mind are merely called associated mind.'
