康僧會註法鏡經云。凡夫貪著六塵。猶餓夫貪食。不知厭足今聖人斷除貪愛。除六情飢饉。故號除饉○分別功德論云。世人飢饉色欲。比丘除此愛饉之想故。

Kang Senghui's commentary on the *Fajing jing* says: "Ordinary persons greedily crave the six sense objects, just like starving men craving food without knowing satiety. Now the noble ones sever greed and affection, and eliminate the famine of the six emotions; hence they are titled 'famine-eliminators'." The *Fenbie gongde lun* says: "Worldly people suffer famine regarding form and desire; because a bhikṣu eliminates this perception of famine for affection [he is called such]."
