問若俗人受三歸後。却祀鬼神為失歸戒否。答優婆塞戒經云。若人受三歸戒後。為護舍宅。及身命。祀鬼神者。不失。若志心禮外道鬼神者。名失。若祠祀不得殺生命。

Question: If a layperson, after receiving the three refuges, instead sacrifices to ghosts and spirits, does he lose the refuge precepts? Answer: The Upāsakaśīla-sūtra states: 'If a person, after receiving the three refuge precepts, sacrifices to ghosts and spirits in order to protect his house or his physical life, he does not lose them. If he reveres non-Buddhist ghosts and spirits with wholehearted devotion, it is called a loss. If he offers sacrifices, he must not kill living beings.'
