Also called the Auspicious Flask. The Mahāprajñāpāramitōpadeśa says: 'It is like a person who suffered from poverty and made offerings to the devas seeking wealth. When twelve years were fulfilled, a deva pitied his intention and bestowed a flask upon him, saying, "This is called the Flask of Virtue; whatever you need will all come forth from the flask." This person, having been poor for so long, suddenly became rich, and everyone wondered and asked about it. Thereupon he brought out the flask and showed it to people, and they saw various objects surging forth from the flask. The person grew arrogant and reckless, stepped onto the flask, and danced. The flask thereupon broke, and all the things were lost. This is a metaphor for one who upholds the precepts: he should be born in heaven and enjoy natural bliss, but if he becomes arrogant, reckless, and self-indulgent, it is like the flask breaking and everything being lost.'
