2.152

經云。譬如赤燒鐵丸。裏劫具綿中。綿速燃否。比丘言速燃。佛言愚癡之人。依聚落住。不善護戒心。不正念。欲火燒心。捨戒還俗。是故汝等。應護根門也。

A sūtra says: 'It is like a red-hot glowing iron pellet wrapped in kalpa-cotton: does the cotton catch fire quickly or not?' The monks said, 'It catches fire quickly.' The Buddha said, 'A foolish person dwells relying on a settlement, does not guard the mind of precepts well, and lacks right mindfulness. With the fire of desire burning his heart, he abandons the precepts and returns to lay life. Therefore, all of you should guard the sense-doors.'
