十住斷結經云。一不染三有。知之為苦。二我與彼人。苦樂俱然。三常行忍辱。四在上不慢。在下不恥。

The Sūtra on the Ten Stages and the Severing of Fetters says: 'First, not being tainted by the three realms of existence, knowing them to be suffering; second, recognizing that for oneself and the other person, suffering and pleasure are identical; third, constantly practicing forbearance; fourth, not being arrogant when in a superior position, and not feeling ashamed when in an inferior position.'
