正法念處經云。此放逸過。一切過（中最）為勝上。又偈云。愚癡樂放逸。常受諸苦惱。若離放逸者。則得常安樂。一切諸苦樹。放逸為根本。是故。欲離苦。應當捨放逸。又云。順法而行。遠離放逸。則閉一切惡道之門。

The Saddharmasmṛtyupasthāna-sūtra says: 'This fault of heedlessness is the most prominent of all faults.' A verse also says: 'The foolish delight in heedlessness / And constantly undergo various afflictions. / If one is free from heedlessness, / One attains constant peace and joy. / Of all the trees of suffering, / Heedlessness is the root. / Therefore, desiring to be free from suffering, / One should abandon heedlessness.' It also says: 'Acting in accord with the Dharma and keeping far from heedlessness shuts the gates to all evil destinies.'
