This refers to the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Saṅgha. The Ratnagotravibhāga states: 'Relying upon six kinds of resemblance, the Buddha, Dharma, and Saṅgha are called jewels: 1. Resemblance in being rare to encounter in the world, because all sentient beings lacking wholesome roots cannot encounter them for hundreds of thousands of myriads of kalpas. 2. Resemblance in being immaculate, because they are free from all contaminated phenomena. 3. Resemblance in majestic power, because they are fully endowed with the six superknowledges, are inconceivable, and have mastery in majestic power. 4. Resemblance in adornment, because they can adorn the supramundane realm. 5. Resemblance in supreme excellence, because they transcend the world. 6. Resemblance in immutability, because as uncontaminated phenomena, they cannot be moved by the eight worldly conditions.' A verse says: 'Being true, rare in the world, / Bright, pure, and endowed with power, / Able to adorn the world, / Supreme, unchanging, and so on.'
