2.27

四分律云。汝等比丘。於我法中出家。更相恭敬。佛法可得流布○毘尼母云。佛言吾去世後當依波羅提木叉行法。當各各謙卑。除去憍慢○戒本云。若比丘不恭敬。犯波逸提罪○地持論云。若見年長福德勝者。應起奉迎禮拜問訊。若見德與己等（者。先意問訊。謙下軟語。不生慢憍。若見年德於己少者。應先意軟語。心不輕慢。設其有罪終不譏刺）。

The Dharmaguptaka-vinaya states: You bhikṣus, having gone forth in my Dharma, should show mutual reverence, so that the Buddha-Dharma may spread. ○ The Vinayamātṛkā states: The Buddha said, "After my parinirvāṇa, you should practice the Dharma relying on the prātimokṣa, each humbling yourselves and eliminating arrogance." ○ The Prātimokṣa-sūtra states: If a bhikṣu is not reverent, he commits a prāyaścittika offense. ○ The Bodhisattvabhūmi states: If one sees someone elder in years and superior in merit and virtue, one should rise, welcome them, pay homage, and greet them. If one sees someone whose virtue equals one's own, [one should take the initiative to inquire and greet them, with humble and gentle words, generating no pride or arrogance. If one sees someone whose years and virtue are less than one's own, one should take the initiative with gentle words, the mind not despising them; even if they have faults, one never mocks or derides them].
