婆沙論云。有色可了施設故名色界。有一十八天。謂初禪有三天。梵眾。梵輔。大梵。二禪有三天。少光。無量光。光音。三禪有三天。少淨。無量淨。遍淨。四禪有九天。福生。福愛。廣果。無想。無煩。無熱。善現。善見。色究竟。

The Vibhāṣā-śāstra states: "Because form can be cognized and posited, it is called the form realm." It comprises eighteen heavens. That is to say, the first dhyāna has three heavens: the Brahmakāyika (Brahmā's Retinue), the Brahmapurohita (Brahmā's Ministers), and the Mahābrahmā (Great Brahmā). The second dhyāna has three heavens: Parīttābha (Lesser Light), Apramāṇābha (Immeasurable Light), and Ābhāsvara (Light-Sound). The third dhyāna has three heavens: Parīttaśubha (Lesser Purity), Apramāṇaśubha (Immeasurable Purity), and Śubhakṛtsna (Pervasive Purity). The fourth dhyāna has nine heavens: Puṇyaprasava (Merit-Born), Puṇyapunya/Anabhraka (Cloudless / Merit-Loving), Bṛhatphala (Extensive Fruit), Asañjñisattva (Thoughtless), Avṛha (Effortless / Not Distressed), Atapa (No Heat), Sudṛśa (Skillfully Manifest), Sudarśana (Skillful Vision), and Akaniṣṭha (Form Ultimate).
