僧祇律云。學有三種。一增上戒學。二增上定學。三增上慧學（又學經律論為三學）。

The *Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya* states: 'There are three kinds of training: first, the higher training in morality; second, the higher training in concentration; third, the higher training in wisdom.' (Also, studying the sūtras, vinaya, and śāstras constitutes the three trainings.)
