高僧慧約。學窮內外。何尚之所重。竟陵文宣王。出鎮禹穴時。有名僧在座。約年夏未隆。王見斂躬盡禮。眾不悅。王曰。此上人方為釋門領神。

The eminent monk Huiyue exhaustively mastered internal and external learning and was respected by He Shangzhi. When King Wenxuan of Jingling went out to govern Yuxue, eminent monks were present at the gathering. Yue's age and monastic seniority were not yet advanced. When the king saw him, he bowed respectfully with full propriety. The assembly was displeased, but the king said: 'This noble master will soon become the guiding spirit of the Buddhist order.'
