2.45

若此方俗之傳拜也。十誦律云。弟子遊方。和尚知彼有靈蹤聖像名德人。和尚令傳禮於彼。其弟子得側身受和尚禮。

This is like the transmission of bows in the customs of this land. The Ten-Recitation Vinaya says: When a disciple travels afar, and the preceptor knows that there are sacred traces, holy images, or persons of renowned virtue there, the preceptor has him transmit bows to them. The disciple may turn his body sideways to receive the preceptor's bow.
