高僧法雅。善內外學。多俗士咨稟。以經義難解雅。將比擬外書為生解之。例謂之挌義。

The eminent monk Faya was skilled in internal and external learning. Many lay scholars consulted him. Because the meaning of the sūtras was difficult to understand, Faya compared them with external books to generate understanding, using them as analogies; this was called 'matching concepts' (geyi).
