梵云鉢多羅。此云應器。今略云鉢也。又呼鉢盂。即華梵兼名也。鉢者乃是三根人。資身要急之物。佛聽用二種。注之如左。

In Sanskrit it is called pātra; here this is translated as 'responsive vessel' (yīngqì). Now it is abbreviated as bowl (pō/bō). It is also called pōyú, which combines Chinese and Sanskrit terms. The bowl is an urgently needed item for sustaining the body of persons of the three faculties. The Buddha permitted the use of two types, noted as follows.
