涅槃經云。爪長破戒之相○文殊問經云。爪許長一橫麥。為搔癢故。

The Nirvāṇa-sūtra states: 'Long nails are a sign of breaking the precepts.' The Mañjuśrīparipṛcchā-sūtra states: 'Nails are permitted to be as long as one horizontal barley grain, for the sake of scratching an itch.'
