付法藏傳云。僧伽耶舍因遊大海邊至一住處堂閣嚴麗滿中。比丘時至鳴鐘集食。食訖爾時餚饍變成膿血便以鉢器互相打擲頭身血污各作是言何惜眾物今受此苦時。耶舍乃問。有一答曰。我等迦葉佛時同止一寺有客比丘來共生嗔恚藏惜飲食不與以此因緣今受此苦。

The Fu fazang zhuan states: "Because Saṃghayaśas was traveling along the seashore, he reached a dwelling place whose halls and pavilions were adorned and magnificent, and filled with bhikṣus. When the time came, they struck the bell to assemble for the meal. When the meal was finished, at that time the delicacies turned into pus and blood; they then threw the bowls and vessels at each other, their heads and bodies stained with blood, each saying: 'Why did we begrudge the assembly's property, and now suffer this torment?' At that time, Yaśas asked about it, and one replied: 'In the time of Kāśyapa Buddha, we stayed together in a monastery. When guest bhikṣus arrived, we jointly gave rise to anger, concealed and begrudged food and drink, and did not give it to them. Because of this cause and condition, we now suffer this torment.'"
