五分云。諸比丘布薩。眾不時集。佛言。若打犍稚。若打鼓吹貝。若食時擊者。楞嚴經云。食辦擊鼓。眾集撞鐘。若說法時擊者。僧祇云。帝釋有三鼓。若善法堂說法。打第三鼓。

The Five-Part Vinaya says: "When the monks performed the poṣadha, the assembly did not gather on time. The Buddha said: 'Either strike the gaṇḍī, or beat the drum and blow the conch.' As for striking it at mealtime, the Śūraṅgama Sūtra says: 'When the food is prepared, beat the drum; when the assembly gathers, strike the bell.' As for striking it when expounding the Dharma, the Mahāsāṃghika Vinaya says: 'Śakra has three drums; when expounding the Dharma in the Hall of Good Dharma, strike the third drum.'"
