增輝記云。未終時長打磬。令其聞聲。發其善思。得生善處。智者大師臨終時。語維那曰。人命終時。得聞磬聲增其正念。惟長惟久。勿令聲絕。以氣盡為期。

The Zenghui ji says: Before life ends, continuously strike the chime, causing them to hear the sound, to evoke their wholesome contemplation, and to attain rebirth in a good realm. When Great Master Zhizhe was facing death, he said to the karmadāna: "When a person is dying, being able to hear the sound of the chime increases their right mindfulness. Let it be prolonged and continuous; do not let the sound cease, taking the expiration of breath as the limit."
