3.387

瑜伽論云。此有情者。非色非心。假名為命。諸師相傳。造善之人。先從下冷觸。至臍已上煖者。然後氣盡。即生人中。若至頭面後頂煖乃氣盡。即生天上。若造惡者。從上冷至腰熱後氣盡。生餓鬼中。從腰膝已上熱氣盡。生傍生中。若從膝已下至足。熱氣盡者。生地獄中。若無學聖人入涅槃。或心及頂皆煖也。

The Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra states: "This sentient being is neither matter nor mind, but is provisionally termed life." The masters have transmitted the following: For a person who creates wholesome deeds, the cold sensation first arises from below; when warmth remains from the navel upward, after which the breath ceases, they are reborn among humans. If warmth reaches the head and face, and last remains at the crown until the breath ceases, they are reborn in the heavens. For those who create unwholesome deeds, it cools from above down to the waist; if warmth remains at the waist until the breath ceases, they are reborn among hungry ghosts. If warmth ceases from above the waist and knees, they are reborn among beasts. If warmth ceases from below the knees down to the feet, they are reborn in the hells. When an arhat without further learning enters nirvāṇa, warmth may remain at both the heart and the crown.
