This matter is perfumed and formed by the merit of morality, concentration, wisdom, and patient conduct. In Sanskrit, *śarīra*; now erroneously abbreviated as *sheli*. In Chinese, it is called "bone-body." The reason it is not translated is for fear of confusing it with the bone-bodies of ordinary mortals. It is also called *dhātu*, which designates the meaning of "indestructible." There are two kinds of *śarīra*: first, the whole body; second, broken [fragments of the] body. Broken bodies are of three kinds: first, bone relics, which are white; second, flesh relics, which are red; third, hair relics, which are black. Only the Buddha's relics possess five colors and divine transformations, and no object whatsoever can destroy them.
