A sūtra says: 'In the past, there was a wildcat that opened its mouth and lay in wait for rats. A young rat came out of its hole, and the wildcat swallowed it immediately. The young rat was still alive inside the belly and ate the wildcat's internal organs in return. Suffering agonizing pain, stupified and frenzied, the wildcat ran wildly until its life came to an end. This is a metaphor for a monk who dwells relying on a settlement, does not guard his sense-doors, and has his mind harmed by desire; stupified, frenzied, and running wildly, he takes no joy in the monastery, abandons the precepts, returns to lay life, and finally comes to death.'
