The Forest of the Dharma says: The deva Huang Qiong described the censer of Kāśyapa Buddha, roughly stating that in front were sixteen lions and white elephants, and upon the heads of the two beasts were separately raised lotus pedestals to serve as the censer; behind was a crouching lion, on whose head nine dragons coiled supporting a golden flower, inside of which was a golden platform and precious dish holding incense. When the Buddha expounded the Dharma, he constantly held this censer. Comparing this with the design of hand censers today, they slightly imitate this model.
