The Mahādharmoṣṇīṣa-dhāraṇī-sūtra says: “A Dharma master should always reflect in this way: ‘Where I now sit is indeed the Tathāgata’s lion seat. It is fitting that I be forbearing, silent, compassionate, gentle-spoken, humble, and considerate of the assembly's hearts.’ If one harbors anger and jealousy, or maintains a mind of rivalry, one incurs grave sin. Expounding the Dharma with a compassionate mind accomplishes great merit, enables the Buddha's Dharma to abide long in the world, ensures that wherever one is born one will constantly meet Buddhas, and enables one to digest various offerings. One should feel shame and conscience, not give rise to greed, and must not have conceit, lest one extinguish the benefactors' roots of goodness.”
