To go to urinate may be expressed in literary terms as si (in the Zuo zhuan: 'Master Hui passed the court of Song and was about to si.' The commentary states: 'It means to urinate. The Vinaya calls it "minor evacuation"'). The Vinayamātṛkā states: 'One is not permitted to urinate everywhere within the monastery. One should designate a single secluded and screened place, burying an earthenware jar or wooden tub in the ground and covering it with an object so that there is no foul odor.' The Mahīśāsaka says: 'It is permitted to bring a chamber pot into the room, tightly stopping its mouth; outside the room, there should be a full vessel of water.' The Upātikā-rāja-sūtra states: 'If one urinates or defecates recklessly within the monastery's Dharma boundary ground, for five hundred lifetimes one will fall into the Bāpa Hell. Thereafter, for twenty kalpas, one will constantly have one's hands and forearms made to grasp this foul soil.'
