The Śata-śāstra-vaipulya says: ‘One must possess three virtues to be called a vessel of the Dharma: first, being gentle in nature and free from bias, constantly examining oneself, and not greedy for personal gain; second, constantly aspiring to superior understanding, seeking the Dharma insatiably, and not resting content in one’s own limits; third, being intelligent and wise in nature, able to understand correctly the distinctions between gain and loss in good and bad words. Without these three virtues, even if one has masters and disciples, there will ultimately be no superior benefit.’”
