Probing the depths [探賾] (First character: ta-han fan [tàn], a variant vulgar character; ancient script wrote it with [𥥍] as [𢲘]; [𥥍] is pronounced tu-gan fan; Kong's commentary to the Shangshu: "Tan [探] means to take." Shuowen: "To take from afar; composed of 'hand' [手] with 'shen' [罙] phonetic." Second character: chai-ge fan [zé]; Yunquan: "Profoundly deep." Guiyuan zhucan: "Mysterious and subtle."
