Eliminator of famine (除饉: *q[ú]-zh[èn]*. In older sūtras written "eliminator-man" / "eliminator-woman", or "fragrant-man" / "fragrant-woman". Now we call them *bhikṣu* and *bhikṣuṇī*. According to the *Fenbie gongde lun*: "Worldly people suffer famine for sensual desires. A monk eliminates this hungry craving of famine, hence the name 'eliminator of famine.'" Furthermore, according to the Sanskrit, *bhikṣu* translates here as "mendicant", which shares the sense of eliminating hunger and famine. Kang Senghui's commentary on the *Fajing jing* also says: "Ordinary mortals are greedily defiled by the six dusts, like a starving man dreaming of rice, never knowing satisfaction. The noble ones cut off defilement and eliminate the hunger of the six senses, hence those who leave the household life are called 'eliminators of famine'").
