佞𧕏（奴定反諂媚也偽善也說文口材也亦德之稱也字從女從仁論語云惡夫侫者此即從女之義左傳寡人不佞不能事父兄此即從仁之義下五竭反說文禽獸蟲蝗之怪謂之𧕏經文作孽鹿子也又作㜸近出字也）。

Flattering and monstrous (佞𧕏: *n[ù]-d[ìng]*. Flattering and sycophantic; hypocritically virtuous. The *Shuowen jiezi* says: "Skill in speaking; also a term for virtue." The character is composed of 女 [woman] and 仁 [benevolence]. The *Analects* says: "I detest those who are glib [侫]"—this is the sense derived from 女. The *Zuo zhuan* says: "I am not glib, unable to serve my father and elder brother"—this is the sense derived from 仁. The second character is pronounced *w[ǔ]-ji[é]*. The *Shuowen jiezi* says: "Monstrosities among beasts, insects, and locusts are called 𧕏." In the sūtra text it is written 孽, meaning a fawn; also written 㜸, which is a modern character).
