Roughly select (麤捔: Ban Gu's introductory chapter in the *Book of Han* says: "*Jiao* means to select official colleagues." Meng Kang's commentary says: "*Jiao* is an ancient character for coarse, pronounced *c[ái]-zh[àn]*." Wei Zhao says: "*Cu* means rough and general").
