泛漲（芳梵反賈逵注國語云泛浮也毛詩傳云泛流貌也說文從凡作汎古今正從水乏聲下張亮反考聲云水增大砂岸崩摧延入水曰漲從水張聲俗以上聲呼非）。

“Flooding and swelling” (泛漲: [泛 is] fanqie 芳 + 梵 [fàn]. Jia Kui's commentary on the Guoyu says: “泛 means floating.” The commentary to the Mao Classic of Poetry says: “泛 denotes the appearance of drifting.” The Shuowen writes it with 凡 as 汎; both anciently and presently, the correct form is composed of 水 [water] with 乏 as phonetic. The lower character is fanqie 張 + 亮 [zhàng]. The Kaosheng says: “When water increases greatly, eroding and collapsing sandy banks so that it spreads wide into the water, it is called 漲. It is composed of 水 [water] with 張 as phonetic.” Reading it colloquially in the rising tone is incorrect).
