波旬（梵語正云波俾掾唐云惡魔佛以慈心訶責因以為名古人譯為波𤰞秦言好略遂去𤰞字旬字本從目音縣誤書從日為旬今驗梵本無巡音蓋書寫誤耳傳誤已久）。

Pāpīyān (波旬: Sanskrit; correctly called Pāpīyān [波俾掾]; in the Tang language this means 'Evil Demon'. The Buddha, out of a compassionate heart, scolded him and consequently made this his name. Ancient translators rendered it as Pabi [波𤰞]; the people of the Qin dynasty liked brevity and thus removed the character bēi [𤰞]. The character xún [旬] originally took mù [目] and was pronounced xuán [縣]; it was mistakenly written with rì [日] as xún [旬]. When examining Sanskrit manuscripts today, there is no xún sound; it is merely a copyist's error, handed down incorrectly for a long time).
