二匹(繽蜜反爾雅云匹合也淮南子云五音之數五以五乘八節五八四十故四丈而為疋疋者中人之兩手度也說文四丈也從匸從八八疊一匹八亦聲也傳作疋俗字也)。

Two bolts [of cloth] (二匹: [匹 has the] fanqie bin + mi [pǐ]. The Erya says: 'Pǐ means to match.' The Huainanzi says: 'The number of the five notes is five; multiplying five by the eight solar terms yields forty [feet], hence four zhang make one bolt (shǐ/pǐ).' A pǐ is the measure spanned by the two arms of an average person. The Shuowen jiezi says: 'It means four zhang. It is formed from 匸 (enclosure) and 八 (eight); 八 piled up is 一匹 (one bolt), and 八 is also phonetic.' Transmitted texts write it as 疋, which is a vulgar character).
