怯弱（羗業反杜林曰怯多畏也說文作㹤從犬去聲也下穰斫反孔注尚書尫劣也禮記年二十曰弱冠說文象形字也）。

Timid and weak (qieruo: [first syllable] qiang-ye fan. Du Lin says: 'Qie means having much fear.' The Shuowen writes it as 㹤, taking the radical 犬 with 去 as phonetic. The second [syllable] rang-zhuo fan. Kong [Anguo's] commentary on the Shangshu says: 'Feeble and inferior.' The Liji says: 'At the age of twenty, one undergoes the weak capping.' The Shuowen says it is a pictographic character.)
